Attleboro High School to Host Candidates’ Forum

ATTLEBORO — The Student Council of Attleboro High School will be hosting a Candidates’ Forum in the Robert H. Bray Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27.

The intention of this forum is to help the voters of Attleboro select who represents them in local municipal government. Members of the Student Council will facilitate a Town Hall-style forum, in which candidates will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves, answer questions and meet with constituents.

“As our students prepare and plan to host an event like this, the exercise strengthens their connections to the greater Attleboro community beyond the walls of Attleboro High School,” said Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction Kevin Gorman. “It provides relevancy and an opportunity for hands-on civic engagement.”

The Candidates’ Forum is open to the public and the citizens of Attleboro are warmly invited to attend. Auditorium entrance doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

“The Student Council is excited for this opportunity and hopes that this event not only better informs the Attleboro electorate but also showcases the transferable skills that Attleboro High students work on in class every day,” Gorman said. “One potential takeaway for the students is that they get to see the transferability of the skills that we practice at school.”

The City of Attleboro’s Municipal Election will be held on Nov. 4. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“We have a Portrait of a Graduate program that focuses on innovation, communication, collaboration and balance,” Gorman said, referencing the Attleboro Public Schools' Portrait of a Graduate framework, which closely aligns with the Bay State’s newly set graduate standards.

The Portrait of a Graduate program promotes the District’s students’ journey toward becoming self-directed lifelong learners who are responsible, involved citizens, guided by four student-centered learning priorities: communicate, collaborate, innovate, and balance.

“Organizing an event like this allows the students to hone their skills in all of those areas while providing a platform for the community to learn more about the candidates before the upcoming election,” Gorman said.
