Next Week

We have 5 days of school next week with a half day on Friday. Lunch will not be served on Friday. Please see the message below regarding Monday’s solar eclipse.

Solar Eclipse - Please Read Carefully

We are looking forward to a spectacular solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, from 2:15 PM - 4:38 PM. This rare event is a wonderful opportunity to marvel at the wonders of the universe. Students will be leaving school shortly before or during the event. As part of our commitment to educational experiences that inspire curiosity and discovery, we are providing all APS students with special viewing glasses to safely observe the eclipse.

What is a solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth. The result is the blocking of the sun, creating a darkened sky. (science.nasa.gov

How can I enjoy the eclipse safely?
Our priority is safety, so please remember to follow these important safety precautions. Looking at the sun directly without safe viewing glasses will result in eye injury.

  1. Wear approved viewing glasses. These glasses are specially designed to protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun during an eclipse. Regular sunglasses do not provide adequate protection.

  1. Supervise children to ensure they are wearing viewing glasses properly.

  1. Take breaks. Viewing the eclipse for an extended period of time can strain your eyes.

  1. Do not use cameras or binoculars (unless they are equipped with specifically designed solar filters). Using an unfiltered device can cause eye injury.

We encourage families to discuss eye safety for an eclipse and to remind students that viewing the eclipse without special glasses can have long term health impacts. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the solar eclipse or the viewing glasses provided, please contact your principal. We are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable learning experience for our students during this exciting event.

Thank you for your attention to the safety precautions.

Updated Guidance for Respiratory Viral Illnesses

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has updated recommendations for schools and the general public to prevent the spread of any respiratory viruses. There are no longer any statewide isolation or quarantine requirements for those who test positive for COVID-19. This aligns with the March 1, 2024, updated guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The new guidance applies to any respiratory viral illness such as Covid, Flu or RSV. Symptoms of a viral illness include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.

The new guidance states that even with a positive Covid test, individuals may return to school/work and resume normal activities when:

  • they have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) AND

  • symptoms are improving.

For additional information – please refer to the student handbook under “School and Illness: When your Child Should Stay Home.” If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse.

Honors Diploma Update

Attention Seniors: Those interested in applying for the honors diploma must complete this application by Sunday, April 21, at 11:59 pm: 2024 Honors Diploma Application. Thank you to all of the students who attended the informational session earlier this week. If seniors have questions, they should contact their house assistant principal or guidance counselor.

SAT School Day Update

Students registered to take the SAT School Day test will report to room A258 & A260 during X block on Tuesday, April 9 to participate in a Digital Readiness Check.  This step is intended to help students ensure that their school issued device is set up and ready for testing. Students will also complete their exam setup which will help to streamline their experience on test day, which for most students is April 25. All SAT test fees must be paid prior to testing.  Students should bring in payments to the SAO on Tuesday, April 9 during lunch.

The Little Mermaid

Attleboro High School Performing Arts presents the musical The Little Mermaid on Saturday, April 6 at 7:00pm and Sunday, April 7 at 2:00pm. Tickets will be available at the door: $12 for adults and $10 for students or senior citizens. Come and see what's going on under the sea!

Upcoming Drama Festival

The Attleboro High School Drama Club will be hosting the New England Drama Festival on Thursday, April 18 through Saturday, April 20, 2024 (during April vacation). This annual event rotates through the six New England states, and upon knowing that 2024 festival would be in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild and New England Drama Council selected AHS! Schools from as nearby as Pawtucket, RI and as far away as Skowhegan, ME will be traveling to AHS to perform their plays, discuss the plays, attend theater workshops, and otherwise connect with each other. The performances are open to the public at $10 per performance block (the full festival schedule at this LINK, which will be updated with school/show names next week). We hope to see you there!
