Grade 9 Family Update

Greetings and welcome to Attleboro High School! This update is for incoming grade 9 students and their families. We are so excited to include you in our Blue Pride Community. We have several important updates for freshmen, so please read carefully to learn about your new Chromebooks, Freshmen Orientation, and much more.

New Chromebook Distribution

Every registered grade 9 student will receive a new Chromebook and charger. We will be distributing Chromebooks from 9:00 to 11:00 on Wednesday, August 23. Please see the schedule below:

  • 9:00 - last name A through C

  • 9:30 - last name D through L

  • 10:00 - last name M through P

  • 10:30 - last name Q through Z

Chromebooks will be disturbed in a drive through fashion in the loop in front of the main entrance. Families will be able to stay in their vehicles. Although you can pick up your Chromebook at any time within this two hour window, we are suggesting the above times to avoid long lines. We will send an update and modify plans if weather is inclement.  Please be advised that friends cannot pick up Chromebooks for each other. If you cannot pick up your Chromebook on August 23, then you will be able to receive it at Freshmen Orientation.

Freshmen Orientation

Freshmen Orientation is Thursday, August 24, at 5:30 PM at Attleboro High School. Students and a family member are asked to attend. We plan to share important information regarding academics, athletics, and other extracurricular activities. We also plan to give tours on this night. You may park in the front or rear of the building and enter through either the main entrance or the cafeteria doors.

Academic Schedules

Student schedules and house assignments will be shared via Aspen prior to Freshmen Orientation. For those who requested particular electives or honors courses, we wanted to let you know that we consider many different factors when scheduling students into classes. Data points taken into consideration include things such as teacher recommendations, standardized test scores (e.g. MCAS), attendance, and grades. As has been previously shared, we would like to reiterate that a request or recommendation for an honors course does not necessarily guarantee placement in that course due to a number of factors. Scheduling a building of nearly 2,000 students is very difficult and please know that we do our best to fulfill requests and place students appropriately.

School Supplies

Here is the suggested school supply list that we shared with all AHS students and families earlier this summer: School Supplies.

Athletics

We know that many of you may be seeking more information about sports. Athletic Director Mark Houle will be speaking at Freshmen Orientation. Additionally, there is an array of athletics information on this webpage: https://ahs.attleboroschools.com/o/ahs/page/athletics

Communication

We are transitioning away from email as a primary communication platform.  We will be using our new website and its communication features to share messaging with students and families. If you haven’t already done so, please download the app designed for mobile devices (and be sure notifications are turned on). It’s everything AHS in your pocket:

We look forward to meeting everyone!

Respectfully,

Kate Campbell
