This week we held our first Mayoral Debate-hopefully the first of many community events. AHS students did a tremendous job hosting and facilitating the candidates during the 90 minute discussion. Students designed and asked each specific question covering as many topics as possible.  Much was learned about each candidate and what they would bring to our city and schools. Hundreds of students were involved with the process including Action Civics, Student Council, Graphic Design, Culinary as well as extracurricular activities. We are building a culture of school community and student voice that we are hoping to extend beyond our walls to our entire city. This week was a great start!

Family Conferences

This Wednesday, January 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, we will be hosting family conferences. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact their teachers to schedule appointments. Guidance counselors and support staff will also be available for conferences. CLICK HERE for our staff directory.

Scheduling and Course Requests for 2023-24

Starting on Tuesday, January 17, grade 9-11 students will be able to make course requests. Students will have time in their Advisories to make requests. The request window closes on January 24. Students and families are encouraged to review the resources hyperlinked below when making requests. Please know that all students will have the opportunity to meet with their guidance counselor and at this point in the year students are simply making requests. A request does not guarantee placement in a course.

Resources

Students will have two Advisories, next Tuesday and Friday, to make requests. Once requests have been made, guidance counselors will meet with all students to review and provide feedback on requests. Students who do not participate in this process will have their requests made for them.

We recommend that students make a copy of the Course Request Worksheet and use it in conjunction with their grade level “cheat sheet” when making requests. Students can also use the Program of Studies to learn more about particular courses.
