Next Week and Beyond

We have 5 days of school next with Advisory on Monday.

MCAS Score Reports

Earlier today, students received their MCAS Score Reports. These score reports are paper copies and contain important information in regard to high school graduation requirements. Please review and seek out your student’s guidance counselor if you have any questions.

Late Work and Test Retakes

Now that the school year is underway and trimester one progress reports will be published in early November, we wanted to share with students and families some general guidelines concerning late work and test retakes. Regarding late work, students will have two weeks from the due date to submit the assignment. Regarding test retakes, students will have two weeks upon the return of the test to retake it if they so choose. Furthermore, students are not automatically entitled to a retake. To be eligible, students must do two things: 1) demonstrate effort on the initial assessment, and 2) reflect on their performance. Students must demonstrate effort so teachers can give accurate feedback regarding areas of improvement. Students must reflect on their teacher’s feedback and formulate a plan to improve performance.  If you have questions, please reach out to your student’s specific teacher(s). Do not wait until the end of the trimester to retake tests or submit late work. It will be too late!

Progress Reports

As alluded to above, trimester one progress reports will be shared digitally via Aspen the week of November 4. Stay tuned for more details.

Blue Pride Night

On Thursday, November 7, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, AHS is hosting our annual Blue Pride Night. All are welcome to attend. This night is also a great opportunity for grade 8 students and families to discover all the great things AHS has to offer.

Grading Group

AHS is considering making changes to our grading system, namely how we report grades and the scale that we use. Changes under consideration include reporting letters (A+ to F) instead of numbers (47, 64, 83, 95, etc) and using a 4.0 type scale instead of a 45 to 100 one. If you would like to be part of this group, please complete THIS FORM. We will meet the evening of Blue Pride Night, November 7. We will provide more details to those who complete the form.

Picture Retake Day

On Thursday, October 30, 2024, Lifetouch will be on-site to do Picture Retake Day.  The photographer will be ready to start taking pictures at 8:00 a.m. in Room A-141 - The College & Career Center.  Retakes should be complete around 11:00 a.m.

In order to manage the flow of students, we have put together a schedule of when students may come down.  Only students who are eligible may get a picture retake. Advisors will review the list of eligible students in X block on Monday.

Guidance Department News

The AHS guidance department is proud to announce that we are hosting an FSA ID Night on Thursday, November 21, 2024. From 4:00 to 6:00, we will provide assistance in creating FSA IDs for seniors and families so everyone is ready to file the FAFSA in December. At 5:00 there will be a brief presentation on the financial aid process. Pizza will be served during the presentation. Please register here: https://forms.gle/ZXgfFTPkMzZJvVfS6.

AHS is also participating in the Massachusetts College Application Celebration, November 18-22. Details are below.

Neighborhood  Safety Concern

If your child rides their bike to school please remind them to wear reflective gear or bright colors that can be seen by morning drivers. We are an early school and the roads can be dark and slippery this time of year.

BPAC

Our next meeting will be held on November 12 at 5:30 in the SAO in the cafe. We will continue our fundraising  discussion to support buses for school field trips as well as begin planning for Teacher Appreciation Week in May. Please feel free to join us.

CTE Update

  • A huge shout out to to Chefs Santiago, Lynch, and Shea and all of the students in Culinary Arts for catering Attleboro High School’s CTE Fall Program Advisory Meeting.  This event was attended by over 125 community members who work to keep our programs robust.  Undoubtedly the menu keeps people coming back!

  • The Blue Pride Bistro will be open next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

  • Mr. Elliot and students in Computer Information Systems will be having a soft opening of their new Help Desk on November 4th.  The Help Desk is a service that will diagnose, repair, and refit electronic equipment for students, staff, and the public.  CIS has been working closely with OIT and have already been assisting with the repair of District assigned Chromebooks.  More information to come!
