PARENT CONFERENCES---WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
Attleboro High School needs to hear from parents on how they feel about the fall and spring parent conferences. As we plan for the future, we want to hold conference opportunities that are useful and important to families. Please let us know your experiences and ideas regarding parent conferences so that we can design events that best meet your needs. The following survey will take just a few minutes of your time. Parents’ Special Scheduling Night
Tuesday, January 31, 2012 -- 6:30 p.m. -- Bray Auditorium
Information will be shared about the trimester schedule, the course selection process, and the online course selection portal. Read more below about the course selection process.
Course Selection Process for 2012-2013
Introduction to the 2012-2013 Course Selection Process
On January 25, 2012, students will receive a password that will enable them (and you) to log on to the student portal of the Attleboro Public Schools’ AspenX2 website. Step-by-step directions, and information about the courses they may request, will be given to them along with the password.
The website will be used to make course requests for next year. You and your student will be able to see course requests, to write a note to the guidance counselor, and to make changes, until the course selection period ends on February 6. First and second semester teachers will review course offerings by department on January 30 and 31. Each student will meet with a guidance counselor to review posted requests during the month of February.
On Friday, January 27, the course selection period will officially begin, and course requests will be available online. On Tuesday, January 31, at 6:30 p.m. in the Bray Auditorium, there will be a special scheduling night for parents and guardians. There will be information about the trimester schedule, about the course request process, and about the student portal. There will be computers available for parents and guardians to access the student portal. Computers will be available at school during the course selection period.
Please do not hesitate to call your child’s guidance counselor with any questions about course selection.
Two Important Facts About the Student
Portal and Course Requests
2.
You do not need to hit “Post” after
making requests. The system saves all of your requests. If
you do hit “Post,” an error message pops up. This error message is
harmless. Your requests are still saved, and can still be changed.
Parents and students – thanks for asking about
these issues. Keep those requests (and questions) coming!
Help AHS Earn Funds to Support School Programs
Attleboro High School is now set up to receive funds from the Stop and Shop A+ bonus bucks program. Anyone who shops at Stop and Shop can register his or her Stop and Shop card by using the code "08455" and going to www.stopandshop.com. Click on "our stores" and then select "register your card". Identify AHS as the recipient school when prompted to do so. After that, our school will receive a monthly check reflecting the percentage of the total receipts expended at Stop and Shop stores. The funds will go into our gifts and donations account which will be used to support school programs and materials. If you are aware of other vendors (We are currently participating in the Target Stores program) who would serve as financial partners in a similar way, please let us know. Thank You. Jeff Newman

Ready For Work
Vocational education teaching skills in demand
Like most high school seniors this time of year, Attleboro High School's Brianne DeVincent is navigating preparations for college and the whirl of activities that attend just-around-the corner graduation.
But DeVincent, who's more proficient at designing and maintaining websites than most teens are at naming their favorite pop stars, already knows where she's going.
A vocational student in the high school's graphic communication program, she's already a webmaster for her school and provides Web services to two other educational programs. She's planning to attend Champlain College in Vermont and hopes to become a professional Web designer.
Virtually all of the state's 26 public career and technical schools now have waiting lists for their programs, which teach everything from auto repair to electronics, according to a recent report from the Pioneer Institute.
Vocational education was also the focus of a new Harvard University study that called for an expansion of vocational programs nationwide to allow students more choices leading to future careers. (More)
